An oversized wood pivot door, a floating walnut console, an arched mirror, and one upholstered bench make a calm, useful entry on a travertine floor.
An entry has a job: somewhere to set keys, check a reflection, and sit to take off shoes. A floating console keeps the floor clear, and a runner softens the stone.
Wall sconces beside the mirror give flattering light and warmth after dark.

- Where it works
- Foyers, mudrooms, and hallways that open from the front door.
- Pairs with
- Travertine or limestone floors, walnut, plaster, aged brass or bronze.
Before you choose it
- A floating console needs solid blocking in the wall, planned before drywall.
- Pivot doors are heavy and need specialized hardware and careful weather sealing. In South Florida, exterior doors must also meet local wind and impact requirements.
- Honed or tumbled stone gives better grip at an entry when floors are wet.
