Natural Stone Kitchen Islands
An island wrapped in one dramatic stone.

In this study, a curved island is clad on every side in a stone with large rounded inclusions and set against a wall of dark cabinetry, so the island becomes the center of the kitchen.
A fully clad island shows stone at its largest scale. Bold patterns need room to be read, so the rest of the kitchen stays simple: flat dark fronts, integrated ovens, and a plain floor.
The curved ends soften the island in an open plan and make it easier to walk around.

- Where it works
- Open kitchens with generous space around the island, and kitchens that connect to living areas.
- Pairs with
- Dark matte cabinetry, wood stools, simple track or pendant lighting.
Before you choose it
- Curved stone cladding is specialty fabrication. Confirm how the fabricator will form the curve and where seams will fall.
- Bold marbles and breccias can etch. For a hard-working island, ask about quartzite, a honed finish, or a sintered surface with a similar look.
- Plan about 42 inches of clear walkway around a working island, and more where two people cook.
- Count slabs early. Cladding every side can take several slabs from the same block.
